Seane Corn is a yoga instructor who is known for her passionate, dynamic and inspirational style of teaching that incorporates both the physical and spiritual aspects of the practice. She has been on the cover of Yoga Journal and has been featured in numerous magazines including Glamour, Vegetarian Times, Self and Allure, which recognizes her as “one of the most sought after yoga teachers in Los Angeles.” Her clientele includes Sting, Heather Graham, Ashley Judd, Drew Barrymore, David Duchovny, Elizabeth Berkley and Sally Field.
She discovered yoga while waiting tables as a teenager in New York City, where she met the owner of a small east village café, David Life, and fellow waitress Sharon Gannon, who later opened the Jivamukti Yoga Centers. In 1992, Seane moved to Los Angeles and began studying at Yoga Works in Santa Monica, where she studied with some of the most renowned teachers in the country. During this period of extensive training, Seane traveled through India, studying Ashtanga yoga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, enjoying the spiritual teaching of Ammachi and spending time at Sri Aurobindo's ashram.
She began working with various healers and spiritual therapists, who educated her and deepened her insight and compassion into the complexities of the human experience and psyche. Seane then studied the subtle energy centres (charkas), their psychological components and the various parts of the body that would be affected by blocked or repressed emotion. She was able to apply these deep metaphysical conceptions to the physical asana practice, choreographing routines that could stimulate and open these blocked passages.
“As we move, breath and experience ourselves the yoga practice becomes a Divine dance and ritual aligning not only our bodies, but also our own creative and intuitive natures,” Seane says. “Through the integration of body and breath, movement and meditative awareness we are reminded of the interconnectedness of all things.”
In addition to creating Vinyasa Flow DVDs for Gaiam, Seane teaches at Yoga Works in Santa Monica, Calif., and travels extensively teaching workshops, conferences and retreats internationally.
